WARRIEDAR RESTORATION PROJECT 2011
Phase 1

4th June to 11th June 2011

DEBRIEF

Dear Members and Volunteers

I wish to thank all TCWA members who attended Warriedar Homestead restoration 2011.

Those who attended;

 Terry & Nanette Wilson

Ken & Iris Hart

Selwyn Scott

Ray Masters

Pete & Ria Stolp

Barry Brown

Charles & Patricia Miller

Ross & Maureen Campbell

Don Smailes

Jeff & Lyn Hemsley

Also thanks to Debbie Duncan & John Gustafson who nearly made it.

The restoration went to plan and even better.

Some of the doors were picked up from Karara on the way to Warriedar.

Peter, Ray & Don were kept very busy repairing the walls to the out buildings whilst the rest of the crew prepared the homestead for painting.

The under gutter blocks and scotia trim were installed whilst the rest of the crew washed walls and sanded down skirtings and doors ready for painting.

Barry worked his magic with the timber work, making a new fireplace surround and repairing many other timber related requirements.

Selwyn & Ross was kept busy repairing and cleaning gutters.

After all prep was completed the painting started in earnest.

Myself on the spray gun painting the exterior and Ria on the roller painting the inside walls with everyone else busily painting skirtings, architraves, the French doors and the lower render on the outside walls plus more.

By this time Peter, Ray & Don had exhausted their cement supply before completing their task.

Many thanks to Ken & Iris who volunteered to travel to Geraldton to purchase another 10 bags of cement to complete the shoring up of the original homestead and the saddle shed.

To our welcome surprise Peter & Angela from a neighbouring mining tenement arrived to give us a hand.

The TCWA Bbq was installed and used, with many evenings enjoyed around the fire.

After of a full on week of restoration at Warriedar we finally packed up all the equipment and then did a reconnaissance of the homestead and out buildings to quantify stage two of this epic Warriedar restoration.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard on this project.

A special thanks to Barry and Ray for towing the trailers with gear required for the project.

I am looking forward to future works at Warriedar and the many other DEC Rangelands buildings that require TCWA’s Rangelands Committee support.

If you wish to participate in future restorations please call me any time.

The full report will be in the next TCWA newsletter and many photos to be put on the Web site soon.

 Many thanks

 Jeff Hemsley
