Lennard Track gets the
Treatment.
Members and friends of the
Southwest 4WD Club recently had their first busy
bee under their track adoption of Lennard Track
on the south side of the
Collie
River. Twenty odd (not that
odd, really) people joined forces with DEC staff
to shift 25 tonnes of bluemetal into ruts and
potholes along Lennard Drive and up Sailors Gully. Walking
planks and bollards were installed at Sappers Bridge, while the rocky crossing down
stream of the bridge was armoured up to deal
with heavy traffic. While they were in the area
more rock was delivered to the old 4WD
Association campsite and a sign announcing the
adoption installed at the River Road bridge end of the track.
Club members were most
impressed with the positive input from DEC,
including 4 staff on the Saturday, driving truck
and bobcat to make the club’s job easier as well
as providing morning tea and lunch.
Club spokesman, Tim Allott
said with this work under their belts the group
could look forward to more activities in the
near future – such as day use site development
and making the jump-up at the western end of
Lennard Track, an all weather climb.
In the interim the club
will keep an eye on the tracks condition and do
the occasional rubbish run.
Lennard Track will be
seasonally closed over winter because the only
exit up Sailors Gully has a serious slippery
patch near the top. Anyone wishing to help out
on Lennard Track can contact Southwest 4WD Club
